What is 200 Proof Food Grade Ethanol?

Food grade ethanol is pure ethyl alcohol designed for applications beyond beverages. It is distinguished by its strength (200 proof, 99.7% min ABV), purity (0% water, zero additives), and packaging sizes exceeding 1.75 liters.  Food Grade Ethanol is often specifically legal to buy online in states that ban the sale of Everclear 190 Proof for beverage purposes.  

Can 200 Proof Substitute for 190 Proof in Recipes?

Yes.  For nearly all recipes, substitute 200 proof food grade ethanol 1:1 for 190 proof Everclear alcohol.

But, Wait...I heard 200 Proof Is Impossible?

Can I make 200 proof into 190 proof?

    Substituting isopropyl, methanol, or denatured alcohol for Everclear 190 proof is not recommended because these other alcohols are highly toxic to the body and therefore not safe for consumption when used in recipes for food or beverage related.  Only pure, food grade, non-denatured, ethyl alcohol (ethanol) should be substituted for 190 proof Everclear.

    To dilute 200-proof ethanol to 190-proof, you can add a specific amount of distilled water. For instance, adding approximately 1 tablespoon of water per quart of 200-proof ethanol achieves the desired concentration. Precise measurements are essential, and it's recommended to consult detailed guides or calculators for accurate dilution.
