When it comes to the healthy and safety of your family, friends, and coworkers, only the very best will do.  While isopropyl alcohol will kill germs and viruses, we recommend using 100% ethyl alcohol vs 70% isopropyl alcohol for making disinfectant spray.  View our preferred recipe for creating homemade disinfectant spray using 100% ethyl alcohol (200 proof ethanol)

70% Alcohol Solution Recipe Using 70% Isopropyl Alcohol

Yield: 12 fl oz of 70% Alcohol Solution

Final Concentration After Mixing:  70% ABV

Important Heads up! If you dilute too much you will spread germs not kill them.  For this recipe, diluting too much = diluting any at all!  When in doubt toss it out. Read more: How to tell the ABV of your starting alcohol (isopropyl or ethanol).

Ingredients:

  • 12 fl oz, of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol.
  • No tap water. Seriously, zero.

Step 1 - In a clean spray bottle, pour the 70% isopropyl alcohol into the bottle.  This solution is already at the recommended minimum ABV of 70%, diluting further with water or other non-alcohol components (like fragrance) may dilute the concentration to levels below what is known to effectively kill germs and viruses.

Step 2 - Store the isopropyl alcohol in accordance with the label directions. 70% Isopropyl alcohol does not expires, contents will kill germs and viruses so long as the ABV remains above 70%.  Source.

Congratulations!
Your natural 70% alcohol solution is finished and ready to kill some germs and viruses. Good work!
